Slow afternoon at the canal district
I went to the canal district with a cheap zoom from a flea market and no particular plan. I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood grey but generous rather than bright.
Working with a cheap zoom from a flea market forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring.
The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.
The café near the canal district still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research. On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip.
I sat on a bench for almost an hour, just watching small boats change as the clouds moved. An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine.
I will probably come back in a few weeks, when the season turns.
