A short walk: a small island ferry
I went to a small island ferry with a pocket camera and no particular plan. I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway.
The café near a small island ferry still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research. A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past.
Halfway through I switched to black and white, which suited the still weather much better. Most of the morning went into watching empty benches; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate.
The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it. Shooting with a pocket camera meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first.
On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip. Working with a pocket camera forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures.
If you go, bring warm socks and a thermos — the café closes early.
