A short walk: the river delta

I went to the river delta with a 50mm lens and no particular plan. Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops.

Halfway through I switched to black and white, which suited the strangely warm weather much better. I sat on a bench for almost an hour, just watching footpaths change as the clouds moved.

Most of the morning went into watching old doors; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate. An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine.

A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past. By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where old doors were still undisturbed.

Working with a 50mm lens forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood strangely warm rather than bright.

Next time I want to try the same walk at sunset.
