What snow tracks taught me
It has been a while since my last trip to the old harbour. By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where snow tracks were still undisturbed.
Shooting with an old film camera meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first. A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past.
On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip. Most of the morning went into watching snow tracks; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate.
Halfway through I switched to black and white, which suited the windy weather much better. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.
I sat on a bench for almost an hour, just watching reflections change as the clouds moved. I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood windy rather than bright.
It was a good reminder that interesting pictures rarely require going far.
