On street corners

A friend suggested a hillside vineyard months ago, and this week I finally went. Shooting with a borrowed medium format camera meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first.

An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.

Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring. Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops.

Working with a borrowed medium format camera forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. The café near a hillside vineyard still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research.

A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past. I sat on a bench for almost an hour, just watching old doors change as the clouds moved.

The full set of photos will go into the archive once the film comes back from the lab.
