On fog
A friend suggested the pine forest behind the town months ago, and this week I finally went. Most of the morning went into watching fog; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate.
On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip. I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll.
A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past. Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring.
I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood unhurried rather than bright. I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway.
The café near the pine forest behind the town still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research. Working with a phone and nothing else forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures.
I will probably come back in a few weeks, when the season turns.
