Harbour cranes at a frozen bay

Some places are better in the off-season, and a frozen bay is one of them. Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring.

I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway. I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood still rather than bright.

Shooting with a 28mm lens meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first. Working with a 28mm lens forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures.

A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past. On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip.

The full set of photos will go into the archive once the film comes back from the lab.
