Winter colours at the northern lakes

The forecast promised rain, so naturally I headed to the northern lakes. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.

The café near the northern lakes still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research. By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where winter colours were still undisturbed.

I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway. Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring.

Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops. An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine.

The light was quiet, and winter colours kept pulling my attention away from anything I had planned to photograph. The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it.

I will probably come back in a few weeks, when the season turns.
