Window light at a frozen bay
It has been a while since my last trip to a frozen bay. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.
Shooting with a pocket camera meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first. Halfway through I switched to black and white, which suited the cold and clear weather much better.
I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway. An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine.
Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops. By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where window light were still undisturbed.
On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip. Working with a pocket camera forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures.
Next time I want to try the same walk at sunset.
