Walking to the pine forest behind the town
A friend suggested the pine forest behind the town months ago, and this week I finally went. On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip.
Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops. A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past.
Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring. The café near the pine forest behind the town still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research.
The light was strangely warm, and harbour cranes kept pulling my attention away from anything I had planned to photograph. The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it.
Working with a phone and nothing else forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll.
The full set of photos will go into the archive once the film comes back from the lab.
