Walking to a small island ferry
The forecast promised rain, so naturally I headed to a small island ferry. A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past.
The light was strangely warm, and morning markets kept pulling my attention away from anything I had planned to photograph. Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring.
Working with a cheap zoom from a flea market forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. The café near a small island ferry still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research.
I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway. On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip.
The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it. By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where morning markets were still undisturbed.
If you go, bring warm socks and a thermos — the café closes early.
