Slow afternoon at the old harbour

It has been a while since my last trip to the old harbour. The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it.

I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll. The light was cold and clear, and window light kept pulling my attention away from anything I had planned to photograph.

I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway. Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops.

Shooting with a 50mm lens meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first. Most of the morning went into watching window light; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate.

I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood cold and clear rather than bright. By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where window light were still undisturbed.

I will probably come back in a few weeks, when the season turns.
