On street corners

The alarm went off before dawn, and by six I was already at a quiet monastery. Halfway through I switched to black and white, which suited the unhurried weather much better.

Locals barely noticed me. A man feeding gulls told me the place looks completely different in spring. Working with a pocket camera forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures.

I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll. The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it.

Most of the morning went into watching street corners; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate. An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine.

If you go, bring warm socks and a thermos — the café closes early.
