Notes from a mountain hut above the treeline
I went to a mountain hut above the treeline with a 28mm lens and no particular plan. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.
I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood unhurried rather than bright. I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway.
The café near a mountain hut above the treeline still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research. Shooting with a 28mm lens meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first.
Most of the morning went into watching rain on glass; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate. Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops.
I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll. On the way home the train was nearly empty, so I reviewed the day's notes and planned the next trip.
If you go, bring warm socks and a thermos — the café closes early.
