Learning to see harbour cranes

It has been a while since my last trip to a village bakery. I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood unhurried rather than bright.

Shooting with a borrowed medium format camera meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first. Most of the morning went into watching harbour cranes; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate.

The path was muddy and longer than the map suggested, but the view at the end made up for it. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.

Working with a borrowed medium format camera forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll.

Next time I want to try the same walk at sunset.
