Harbour cranes at an abandoned railway line

The alarm went off before dawn, and by six I was already at an abandoned railway line. The light was still, and harbour cranes kept pulling my attention away from anything I had planned to photograph.

I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll. Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops.

I sat on a bench for almost an hour, just watching winter colours change as the clouds moved. Working with a 35mm prime forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures.

I will probably come back in a few weeks, when the season turns.
