Footpaths and old doors

The forecast promised rain, so naturally I headed to the canal district. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.

Shooting with an old film camera meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first. Halfway through I switched to black and white, which suited the grey but generous weather much better.

By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where footpaths were still undisturbed. I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll.

Most of the morning went into watching footpaths; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate. I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway.

The full set of photos will go into the archive once the film comes back from the lab.
