A short walk: the canal district
I went to the canal district with a cheap zoom from a flea market and no particular plan. I underexposed most of the frames on purpose, to keep the mood quiet rather than bright.
The café near the canal district still serves the same cinnamon buns; I had two and pretended it was research. I tried a few long exposures, but the wind had other ideas. The handheld shots turned out better anyway.
Most of the morning went into watching early light; I took fewer frames than usual, but each one felt deliberate. There is something calming about returning to the same spot and noticing small changes since the last visit.
Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops. A light drizzle started around ten. I sheltered under a bus stop roof and photographed people hurrying past.
Working with a cheap zoom from a flea market forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine.
It was a good reminder that interesting pictures rarely require going far.
