A short walk: an empty beach in November

I went to an empty beach in November with a borrowed medium format camera and no particular plan. Walking back, I found a side street I had never noticed before, lined with tiny workshops.

The light was cold and clear, and small boats kept pulling my attention away from anything I had planned to photograph. Shooting with a borrowed medium format camera meant I had to get closer than I am used to, which was uncomfortable at first.

By noon the crowds arrived, so I walked further along the path, where small boats were still undisturbed. I kept a paper notebook this time, writing down the time and the light for every roll.

Working with a borrowed medium format camera forces you to slow down. You think twice before pressing the shutter, and that changes the pictures. An elderly couple asked me to take their picture. I used their phone, then made one frame of them on mine.

I will probably come back in a few weeks, when the season turns.
